Ollie's birthday was a great success, everyone had tons of fun! Carrot cake on the menu for humans and veggie kebbabs for the buns. Later on we took Oliver for a walk on the leash for the first time ever. Confused but was coping well. I think he was very interested to discover the garden beyond the bunny garden!
Need to make up a date and celebrate Honey's 10th birthday sometime in the summer!
Honey has been slowing down with food so Laura thought its best to sort it out asap. We went for dental yesterday. She recovered well but not eating straight away, very sleepy. Next time do it on a Friday so that I can look after her over the weekend.
The abscess is behaving but it's still there.
Some goo came out through some glands at the front of the nose, not the nostril but kinda sort of below where the split is. Continuing Metacam, Septrin and Metronidazole. Honey has been slow with food so Laura thinks its best to bring her in for dental before she stops eating.
So far no more signs of the abscess, no more goo, no more sneezing. Honey is feeling great although we continue with the antibiotics and painkillers. A bit more fussy with food but still eating well. :)
Went back to the vet to check the abscess and Laura pressed on Honey's nose and the abscess came out through the nostril! There was a lot of goo and obviously uncomfortable but now the bump on the nose is gone! Great stuff, means the opp to remove may not be needed! Fingers crossed it will not come back :)
On Xmas Day I noticed Honey bunny has got an abscess. She was sneezing for around a week, so put her on Metacam and Baytril. I noticed her left nostril was a little more closed up so I started poking and discovered a little pea sized thing in the corner near her nose and lip. Laura confirmed its an abscess on Monday morning and put her on Septrin and Metronidazole. She is hoping the drugs will work as the opp might be difficult due to the location of the abscess (underneath the whiskers). The abscess is growing tho, the lose looks red and sore, hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. She's still eating well tho, tough little bunny. Back to Laura for checkup on Tuesday.
Ollie is looking after Honey incredibly well, he keeps grooming her constantly. He is very caring and even tell me off when I try to clean Honey's eye or nose. Her eye is sometimes a little wet so even just a couple of licks to make sure she's all groomed. Honey of course is loving it. He did try to run away with her antibiotic once! Well at least I know the drugs won't be a problem if he ever needs any.
Honey's eye sight is now definitely going bad, I think she may be almost completely blind. There is a silver grey film on top of her eyes, she keeps bumping into things. Both eyes are the same. It started with very faint film a couple of weeks before my last holidays. Duncan had her eyes checked and said there was no problem, just old age. Over the last two weeks the film has gotten more visible.
Of course she doesn't seem to be much bothered, I on the other hand am taking it really bad. It breaks my heart to see her like this. Hopefully I will adjust soon. She can still see some light, she blinks if I take a pic with flash on, and gets startled if light goes on in a dark room. Bless her my lovely little bunny. I wish I could fix her eyes so she can see again...

This time both bunnies are getting their jabs together. It's Ollie's first VHD vaccination and Honey's kind of first, since I convinced Duncan to give them Lapinject as opposed to Cylap. Fingers crossed both bunnies will cope well.
I was woken up by my downstairs neighbour tv at around 4am. Even tho the parties now stopped for a while she was still managing to keep me awake at night, I was pretty mad.
Whatever show she was watching finished around an hour later and I was trying to fall asleep again. Suddenly I started to see big flashes in my eyes (somebody once told me that means your brain sells are dying) and so I thought my brain just burst. Then I felt Honey jump up on the bed and hop along to my head tickling me with her whiskers. I felt the quilt move, she moved my hair and I could hear the little breathing next to my ear. I thought "how did she get in to my bedroom? the door is closed" and then immediately I realised "that's not Honey". It was Judy, he died on the 18 November 2009. I recognised him by his breathing, it was always faster then Honey's.
Immediately I wanted to turn to the other side and to have a look at whatever was there. If it was Judy, I wanted to see him. I would do anything for one last cuddle with my baby. The only problem was that I couldn't move! I seemed to be completely paralysed and this really freaked me out. I think it only lasted for a few seconds, but not being able to move is very scary, particularly when you think your dead bunny is visiting!
Eventually my body seemed to move again and quickly turned to see nothing. I thought I was going completely mad. I know I wasn't sleeping and I know a rabbit was in my bed, and Honey and Ollie were in the kitchen cause I could hear them! It was exactly 5:04am on the clock but since it was a time change that night it was 4:04am, and the next day was halloween. Spooky or what.
So I tried to go back to bed thinking about Judy and then I felt my body doing it again. Flashes in my eyes and I started to get paralysed. I quickly opened my eyes, even if I couldn't move I wanted to see him! I only caught the back legs and the tail as he jumped up on my pillow behind me. It happened a few more times again, bunny hoping along on my bed and I'm laying there paralysed (with fear?). The floor was creaking and the radio was making funny noises too, even tho it was off. I really thought I was going crazy!
So I told everybody and work, and thank god someone could offer an explanation! Apparently it's a well known phenomena called "sleep paralysis". It can occur either on falling asleep or on awakening, and basically its the opposite of sleepwalking. The brain wakes up but the body remains paralysed. It is accompanied by terrifying hallucinations. People usually experience extremely scary encounters with goblins or such like, so I think I was very lucky. Still, freaky or what?

Honey was not eating anything leafy, and sometimes I am not sure if its the teeth of if she just doesn't like leafy veg anymore. She never had that problem before but in recent months its been like this. Anyway, I came back from work yesterday to find her drooling so I called the vet. At the time of the last dental she stopped eating completely to Laura convinced me not to wait and bring her in.
All went well and she has spurs on the upper left towards the tongue and upper right towards the cheek. She recovered well, so hopefully no more fussy eating.
I knew something was up when mum keep rushing around the house collecting stuff, even my stuff! Blankets, bowls, even our litter trays! Everything went up in the car, and yes, us too! Thank god she gave us this big comfy cushion to sit on in the carrier.
The journey took forever so I figured we are not going to the Vets. Honey seemed calm as usual but me being the baby that I am, I was getting impatient. When we eventually got there I could smell loads of bunny friends and I got even more excited only to see mom and this guy to be setting up cages. Hmm..
This guy turned out to be Jim and is lovely. He lives with Lynda who is also very lovely. Funny that mom was nowhere to be seen. Anyway, Honey looked like she's been there before and she wasn't concerned a bit. I got to explore the whole house, I wish mom had a bigger house to run around in! I got loads of cuddles and bit Lynda but she didn't scream at me. Well she was in my way!
Ah yes and then mom turned up in a mad rush and off we were packed away again! It was fun, but it's good to be home!
Ollie is recovering very well, I am amazed that he had stopped spraying almost immediately. Honey is doing good too, eating slowly tho, so feeding times are a bit of a drag as I have to separate them. Mites still there but definitely improving. Honey got he Myxi vaccination today so next time they will get their VHD together.
Ollie is back home and behaving as if nothing happened! Running around, chasing after Honey, I bet by the end of the evening the floors (and Honey) will be soaking wet with bunny pee! Ah, soon enough I will get my house back!
